From the Ground Up

I gotta hand it to Chris on this one.  I would've been happy to not go to the trouble, but he insisted. And I'm glad he did.

We just got back from an incredible trip to VT and NH, bringing us one step closer to our build.  All along, Chris has insisted we build with at least some of the hemlock/timbers from our own property. It wasn't easy, but it looks like that vision will soon become a reality.

These timbers below were just recently cut from the very space where the house will stand.  A quick trip down the road to CJ (owns the mill) and they were ready for transport.  We closed on the Westwood house last night, I stayed over at Chris's place, we both took work off, rented a trailer, and off we went, bound for CJ's.  We loaded all the wood onto the trailer in one go and set off for the lumber mill in NH where our timbers were going to be planed before arriving at our frame builder's shop.  It took us about 2 hour to get the timbers there, but we made it.  And we had some incredible barbeque along the way.

This mill was ridiculous, with literally thousands of trees ready to be milled.  A local with about two teeth unloaded our wood and stored it in a warehouse in about as much time as it took us to get out of the truck.  We took one last look, and off we went.  A lot of work, but it will definitely be worth it in the end, knowing some of the timbers in the house will be from our land.

The New Plans

Well, it looks like I was a little hasty in posting the previous plans.  Turns out they were about twice what we could afford.  Who knew?  Anyways, after a strong dose of reality set in, we revised the plans and this is what we have come up with.  And these plans are the real deal.  In fact, concrete starts pouring tomorrow.  No turning back now.
