A Lesson in How NOT to Pick Tile

Well, the tile is picked.  Finally. That's not to say that it didn't take us close to 10 hours to do so. It's now pretty clear that Chris and I can work together pretty well but one thing neither on of us knows how to do is pick tile. It seems we've settled on some tile we like, but it wasn't easy. And it wasn't before we had to return it. Twice.

Progress has slowed a bit as the painter does his thing at the house.  Taping, sanding, priming, and painting a house this size by yourself is definitely time consuming. Still, lots of other little things have been happening. The wide plank floors are ready for install and these boys are wiiiide.  24" wide.  Old school.  The kitchen cabinets sit in the warehouse, waiting for us to be ready.  The chimney has ben finished and now the interior rock work is well underway. We've chosen some paint colors for interior bedrooms, picked bathroom fixtures, and will be picking lighting on Tuesday.

The next two weeks promise to be busy at the house and I think things will look pretty different in that time.  It has been an amazing summer to follow the progress.  It's hard to believe that in April we still had a massive burn pile where the house now sits.

So Much in One Weekend

Wow, what a productive few days.  After our dismal showing at the flooring center where we spent two hours looking at tile and carpet and left completely undecided, we made some serious decisions this weekend.

We bought appliances, we bought furniture, and we decided on granite.  Lots is going on at the house, as walls are being taped, mudded, sanded and will be primed and painted in the next week. Once that is done, flooring can go down and then the kitchen can be installed and the interior chimney can be finished (the outside is now done and looks amazing!)

There was talk of having the house done close to Labor Day, which is only a month away.  It's insane to think that in just a month, things may be done.  Blows my mind.

Septic? Check. Shingles? Check. Drywall? Check.

Septic is done, drywall is done, shingling the crow's nest is done, insulation is done, chimney is nearing completion.  We continue to make progress day after day and more exciting accomplishments are in line. It shouldn't be long now before were actually in the home stretch.  I still can't believe it's all happening.

More Progress

Chris and I went up late Friday night and spent a quick 24 hours at the house before coming home. The main goal of this trip was to pick flooring, but of course, we also wanted to check on all the progress.

It seems a few days go by and everything changes up there.  The roof has been just about completed, siding is progressing, the chimney has begun, insulation is ongoing as is electrical, the septic is just about done, and we got some pretty great samples (shingle color, floor color, and potential walnut counters).

We did make it to Bennington to check out carpet and tile, but we were quickly overwhelmed and rendered pretty much useless.  It didn't stop us from spending two hours there being indecisive though.  We walked out having narrowed down the carpet and picked out a dark gray tile for the mudroom and bathrooms. We still have to pick out shower tile and finalize our carpet choice, but we'll get to that, I guess.

Next up is drywall and it starts Monday!  I don't think Chris and I have many more nights in the 10x12 cabin.  A lot of good times there, but many more to come in the house!
